Rachel Ong

Associate

Rachel focuses on commercial litigation and international arbitration. She has advised clients on issues arising out of commercial, shareholder and joint-venture disputes, as well as banking and financial services. She also has experience in proceedings before English and Singaporean courts. Prior to joining the firm, she clerked for an eminent arbitrator in Asia and has particular experience in commercial arbitrations under a variety of rules, including the ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL and SIAC rules.

Praised for being “assiduous to the core”, Rachel is recognised as a key lawyer for Commercial Litigation in Legal 500 UK.

Shareholder Disputes

Acting for a telecoms company and its shareholders in multiple ICC, Lebanese Arbitration and Mediation Center and ad hoc arbitration claims alleging fraud alongside contractual and statutory claims in relation to a collapsed telecoms joint venture with a value of over USD 3 billion.

 

Tuna Bond Litigation

Acting in complex English court proceedings against the Republic of Mozambique and Credit Suisse with respect to the “tuna bond scandal”, where amounts in dispute are over £500m.

 

Norske Skog

Defending fraudulent transfer claims in Chapter 15 adversary proceedings brought by the trustee of Norske Skogindustrier, an insolvent Norwegian paper company, relating to a 2016 restructuring.

 

Insolvency-related investigations and litigation

Acting for the administrators on the investigation into the collapse of a leading international distribution company.

 

Private Equity Fund

Acting for one of the world’s top private equity funds in connection with litigation arising out of a significant collapse of a joint venture transaction.
