Nick Turvey

Partner

Nick has deep experience in acting for the highest profile asset managers, financial institutions and insolvency practitioners on complex financial disputes, sovereign debt matters, and contentious insolvencies.

An experienced trial lawyer, he has led and advised on proceedings in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court, and acted and appeared in bet-the-company ICC and LCIA arbitrations. Clients rely on Nick’s experience in investment structuring, investigations and commercial strategy, including on high-profile disputes in numerous EU states, the US, Hong Kong and Cayman.

Praised for “providing solid advice” and being “street smart and able to shift gear effortlessly”, Nick is recognised as a key lawyer for Banking Litigation and Commercial Litigation in Legal 500 UK.

His recent experience involves acting on several of the highest profile African banking and insolvency disputes of the last 10 years.

Madison Pacific

Acting for a trustee in complex litigation (and related arbitration) proceedings relating to the bail-in of the Ukrainian bank PrivatBank, and the resultant failure to repay €500m of notes.

 

Private Equity Fund

Acting for one of the world’s top private equity funds in connection with litigation arising out of a significant collapse of a joint venture transaction.

 

Tuna Bond Litigation

Acting in complex English court proceedings against the Republic of Mozambique and Credit Suisse with respect to the “tuna bond scandal”, where amounts in dispute are over £500m.

 

Smile Telecom

Acting for Smile’s majority shareholder and senior lender in respect of two Restructuring Plans, breaking new ground before the English Courts.

Acting for the administrators on the investigation into the collapse of a leading international distribution company.
