Pallas Strengthens New York Office, Appointing Veteran SDNY Prosecutor Joshua Naftalis as Partner
“Josh is an extremely talented lawyer and brings a unique perspective to the firm with a wealth of experience in acting on high-end, complex investigations and litigation matters” said Natasha Harrison, Founder and Managing Partner of Pallas. “His expertise will complement our existing client offering and will support the continued growth of Pallas New York following on from an incredibly successful first year. We are excited to welcome Josh to the firm and look forward to working with him.”
Josh comes to Pallas following an 11-year career as a federal prosecutor in Manhattan, where he led many of the government’s most significant white collar prosecutions and trials. In addition to being a senior member of the SDNY’s Securities & Commodities Fraud Task Force for seven years, he was part of the Deputy Attorney General’s KleptoCapture Task Force and the SDNY’s Money Laundering Unit. Josh handled high profile matters involving insider trading, corporate and accounting fraud, market manipulation, money laundering, sanctions evasion, and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. His work involved extensive coordination of cross-border and multi-agency investigations, including with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and Federal Bureau of Investigation.
A highly regarded trial lawyer and litigator, Josh has tried over a dozen cases, all to successful verdicts and outcomes. He secured convictions in every federal criminal trial that he led as an Assistant United States Attorney, including the recent conviction of Goldman Sachs investment banker Brijesh Goel for insider trading; the conviction of a political intelligence consultant, two hedge fund partners, and a government employee for insider trading in United States v. Blaszczak; and the conviction of Visium portfolio manager Stefan Lumiere for securities mismarking. Earlier in his career, he was a member of the trial team in the successful defense of Airgas’ “poison pill” in the Delaware Court of Chancery. He has briefed or argued 17 appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Josh was named a “Rising Star” by the New York Law Journal.
“We are thrilled and privileged to have Josh join our growing New York office,” said Duane Loft, Partner at Pallas Partners (US) LLP. “His record as a prosecutor and trial lawyer is extraordinary. With Josh, we now have a premier white collar criminal defense practice and another star litigator to continue our success here in New York.”
“I am delighted to be joining Pallas and its growing litigation and investigations practice in New York” said Josh Naftalis, Partner at Pallas Partners (US) LLP. “This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to be part of a team that is at the forefront of challenging the industry status quo and driving innovation to deliver exceptional client outcomes. I’m looking forward to working with the Pallas team to grow our practice and sustain the momentum that has already been achieved in a remarkable first year for Pallas in the U.S.”
Prior to joining the Department of Justice, Josh practiced at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz. He was also a law clerk to The Honorable John M. Walker, Jr., Chief Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and to The Honorable Carol Bagley Amon, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Josh received his Bachelor of Arts from Yale University, magna cum laude and with distinction, and his Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School, where he was Managing Editor of the Columbia Law Review and a James Kent Scholar.
“We are excited to welcome Josh to the firm and look forward to working with him.”
